Her journey into yoga began over 12 years ago in 1998. Having 13 years clean & sober, a corporate management position and two young children ages 5 and 7, life was hectic and overloaded. Simultaneously, her husband’s business was going through a major transition. A neighbor recommended Bikram Yoga classes twice weekly at the local gym to gain a balance in life. “For 1 ½ hours, I was finally able to quiet my mind and leave the extraneous voices outside. I felt immediate relief.” She felt that the spiritual base of yoga blended perfectly with the 12 Steps of recovery.
One day Philly’s yoga instructor asked her to substitute teach a Sunday class. “It felt so natural. It was like a calling. It felt like I had always been teaching yoga.”
In 2000, the beginning of a new century coincided with the beginning of another new way of life. She left the corporate world, earned a yoga certification and opened up Mystic Yoga Healing Studio. She taught yoga wherever she could. She spread her love of yoga to health clubs and corporate employers such as Humana Health Care Plans, Bell South and the Broward Sheriff Office.
In 2002 she became part of the teaching staff at a newly opened yoga studio. She teaches yoga classes in various treatment centers in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Philly is active in the recovery community. She continually works the steps with her sponsor and applies those principles in her daily life. She facilitates tradition workshops, is involved in service and believes in carrying the message of recovery to others.
